Ayurvedic care for pimples, acne and acne marks - treating hormones, digestion and skin together
Pimples (Yuvan Pidika)
Acne appears when the skin's pores get blocked with oil and dead skin, leading to blackheads, whiteheads, pimples and sometimes painful cysts. It is common in teenagers, but many adults - especially women - also get acne.
In Ayurveda, pimples are called Yuvan Pidika or Mukhadushika and are linked mainly to Pitta and Kapha imbalance. Our doctors look at hormones, digestion, diet and skincare, so that the acne is treated from the inside as well as on the skin.
Common Causes
Puberty, periods, pregnancy and PCOS can increase oil production.
Excess oil and dead skin block pores and trap bacteria.
Oily, spicy or sugary food and poor digestion can make acne worse for some people.
Stress hormones and irregular sleep often lead to breakouts.
Heavy creams and make-up that block pores can trigger pimples.
Picking pimples spreads infection and leaves marks and scars.
Your plan depends on the type and severity of your acne and its cause. It may include:
Acne usually improves over several weeks. Old acne scars change slowly and may need longer treatment.
Medicines and therapies are prescribed only after a consultation. Please do not start any herb or medicine on your own.
FAQ
Most people see improvement within a few weeks of regular treatment. Marks and scars take longer to fade.
In women, acne along the jaw and chin with irregular periods can be a sign of PCOS. The doctor may advise tests and treat both together.
Use light, non-oily products and always remove make-up before sleeping. The doctor will advise what to avoid.
Please do not squeeze or pick pimples - it spreads infection and increases the risk of marks and scars.
