Vitiligo Treatment

Long-term Ayurvedic care for white patches (Shvitra), planned and monitored by our doctors

White Patches (Shvitra)

What Is Vitiligo?

Vitiligo is a skin condition in which some areas of the skin lose their colour and turn white, because the cells that make skin pigment (melanocytes) stop working. It can appear on any part of the body, and in some people it spreads slowly over time.

Vitiligo is not contagious - it does not spread by touch, sharing food or living together. In Ayurveda it is described as Shvitra. Our treatment aims to stop the patches from spreading and to support the return of natural colour.

Causes & Triggers

What Can Cause or Trigger Vitiligo?

01

Immune System Changes

In most people, the immune system mistakenly affects the pigment-making cells of the skin.

02

Family History

Vitiligo is more common when a parent or close relative also has it.

03

Emotional Stress

Stress can trigger new patches or make existing patches spread.

04

Skin Injury

Cuts, burns or repeated friction sometimes trigger patches at the same spot.

05

Sunburn & Chemicals

Severe sunburn and contact with certain chemicals can act as triggers.

06

Other Conditions

Vitiligo is sometimes linked with thyroid problems and other autoimmune conditions.

Our Ayurvedic Approach

Vitiligo needs patient, long-term treatment. Your plan is based on the type, size and stability of your patches and your general health. It may include:

  • Internal medicines: Ayurvedic herbs chosen to support the skin and balance the body
  • Shodhana (Panchakarma): cleansing therapies such as Virechana, when the doctor feels they are suitable
  • External applications: medicated oils or pastes for the patches, used exactly as directed
  • Sun exposure: controlled sun exposure, only if and as the doctor advises
  • Diet & lifestyle: avoiding incompatible food combinations (viruddha ahara) and managing stress

Response to treatment differs from person to person. Small, stable patches usually respond better than large or rapidly spreading ones, and treatment often takes many months.

Medicines and therapies are prescribed only after a consultation. Please do not start any herb or medicine on your own.
