Classical Ayurvedic detox and rejuvenation therapies, planned and supervised by our doctors
Ayurvedic Detox & Rejuvenation
Panchakarma - literally "five actions" - is the classical cleansing and rejuvenation therapy of Ayurveda. It aims to remove accumulated toxins (ama) from the body, restore the balance of the three doshas - Vata, Pitta and Kapha - and prepare the body to respond better to treatment.
At Usma Ayurvedic Clinic, Panchakarma is planned only after a consultation with our doctor. The therapies, their number and duration are chosen according to your health, body type (prakriti) and concern - it is never a one-size-fits-all package.
Panchakarma Therapies
Controlled, medicated emesis to clear excess Kapha - traditionally used for respiratory, allergic and skin conditions.
Medicated purgation to remove excess Pitta - traditionally used for digestive, skin and metabolic concerns.
Herbal decoction or oil enemas, regarded in Ayurveda as the most important therapy for Vata-related disorders.
Medicated oils or drops given through the nose for head, neck, sinus and stress-related concerns.
Traditional blood purification methods, used selectively for certain skin and blood-related conditions.
Abhyanga (oil massage), Swedana (herbal steam), Shirodhara and Kati Basti - used before or alongside the main therapies.
The Process
Our doctor assesses your health, body type and medicines, and decides whether Panchakarma suits you and which therapies to use.
Snehana (oleation) and Swedana (herbal steam) prepare the body and loosen accumulated toxins.
The selected main therapy - for example Virechana or Basti - is given under supervision.
A light, gradual diet, rest and lifestyle guidance help restore digestion and strength.
Based on your consultation, our doctor may recommend Panchakarma as part of your treatment plan for:
In Ayurveda, Panchakarma is also used to prepare the body before Vajikarana (rejuvenation and vitality) therapy, so that the medicines that follow can work better.
Panchakarma is not right for everyone. Please tell the doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, very weak or elderly, recovering from a recent illness or surgery, have a serious heart or kidney condition, or currently have a fever. The doctor will check this during your consultation.
Important: Panchakarma should always be done under the supervision of a qualified Ayurvedic doctor. Please do not try these procedures at home.
FAQ
It depends on your health and the therapies chosen. A programme usually lasts from a few days to around three weeks, including preparation and recovery. The doctor will tell you the exact duration after your consultation.
Panchakarma is generally not painful. Some therapies can cause mild discomfort or tiredness for a short time, which is why every step is supervised.
When it is planned and supervised by a qualified Ayurvedic doctor after a proper assessment, Panchakarma is generally considered safe. It is not suitable for everyone, so a consultation is always done first.
In Ayurveda, Panchakarma is often used to cleanse and prepare the body before rejuvenation (Vajikarana) treatment. It can support your overall treatment plan, but it is not a standalone cure - the doctor will advise whether it is useful in your case.
Yes. A light, easily digestible diet is advised before, during and after the therapies. The doctor will give you a diet plan for each stage.
Tell the doctor about all the medicines you take. Do not stop any prescribed medicine on your own - the doctor will advise you.
